Uses For
Aromatherapy Essential Oil
Every medicine
cabinet should include some essential oils for their therapeutic
value. In fact incorporating them into your lifestyle for
some fun and relaxation is not that difficult at all. Here
are some excellent uses for aromatherapy essential oil.
Use steam inhalation for colds or influenza. Start by boiling
2 cups of water then pour the water into a stainless or glass
bowl. Never use plastic. Then add 2 to 4 drops of
your aromatherapy essential oil. Eucalyptus, Thyme, Pine, or
Rosemary are all good choices. Next place your nose about a
foot away from the bowl and inhale for 30 seconds then remove from
steam for 30 seconds. Repeat until relief is noted.
If there is any irritation you need to stop immediately. Repeat as
necessary.
For relaxation and room freshening boil 2 cups of water then pour into
a glass carafe. Use 4 to 10 drops of your favorite
aromatherapy essential oil. Chamomile, Neroli, lavender, or
rose are all excellent oils for relaxing. You can experiment
with the number of drops and you can even experiment by mixing
oils. Add the aromatherapy essential oils to your water and
let it waft through your room.
Another way to use aromatherapy essential oil is for room freshening is
with a lamp scent ring or aromatherapy diffuser lamp. Use up
to 10 drops until level of aroma you want is achieved. Reduce
the number of drops for sensitive oils like Cinnamon, Thyme, Rosemary,
or Pine.
You can also use aromatherapy essential oil to freshen throughout your
house simply by placing a few drops in the washer with your load of
laundry, on your vacuum filter, on a tissue in your drawers, or in your
trash can. Add your favorite oil anywhere you like.
There are a few aromatherapy essential oils that work excellent as a
bug repellent and because it’s natural you don’t
have to worry about horrible side affects. And of course you
can use it on your children too.
You can also use aromatherapy oil around the house just by placing a
few drops on a cotton balls or tissue and then setting it in a doorway
or a window. Apply it the same way on your body but it a
diluted form. Take a one ounce container and add 10 to 12
drops of the aromatherapy essential oils you are using. Mix
then dunk your Q-tip into the mix and apply on your neck, inside of
your wrists, bottom of your feet, back of your ankle, and on the top
shoulder area. You don’t need a lot. Use
Peppermint, Lavender, or Citronella because they are all natural insect
repellents.
You no longer have to purchase massage or bath oils. All you
need one ounce of almond oil then add 20 drops of aromatherapy
essential oil. Use for a relaxing massage. Never
apply essential oils without diluting and never apply near the eyes or
genital areas even when they are diluted. Use oils that you
enjoy. Lavender is particularly relaxing.
You can also use your aromatherapy essential oil in the bath.
You can just add a few drops of the mix above or you can add about 12
drops directly into your bath. How many drops will depend on
the oil that you are using.
Aromatherapy essential oil can have many uses. These are
guidelines only. It is always important to know the oil you
are working with and to use it accordingly. All oils are
flammable and all oils when applied to the body will interact with your
body so understand what you are doing. If you have any health
issues always check with your doctor.
